502 mpi mechanical fuel pump problem
I posted this in the general tech forum, got no results so i will try in this forum.
"I removed the sea water pump/fuel pump this spring. Cleaned out all the crappy fuel/oil mix, put in new oil and a new gasket. Everything is good and tight. Just took the boat out for the first time this season, and she was pushing a little bit of oil out of the gasket sealing area. Left a couple of runs down my bilge. This was after a short 10 minute run. I then cleaned up the pump with some paper toweling and ran it the rest of the day. Didn't see anymore leaking from the pump.
Anyone seen this before? Or did i just need to add some silicone sealant with the gasket. Maybe i overfilled it? Not sure."
No since, i have looked at the pump again, and the gasket sealing area and pump in a whole has more residue from the oil. I cracked open the side plug, and nothing came out. I put a allen wrench in there and took it out and it seemed to have a little fuel odor. Also, i noticed that when i pulled that plug, the pump had a bit of pressure built up. I'm thinking that possibly the fuel pump diaphram is leaking a bit, pressurizing the oil resevoir, and mixing a bit of gas as well. Not sure. Havn't been here before. Anyone have any useful info i can go off of. Also, if i need a fuel pump, who is a good place to get one from vs. the local marina that will be $100 bucks more than anyone else................... Thanks
