Default Trim gauges fault from neutrual to in gear

anybody have any insight on why my gauges work when they are in neutrual and when you have the engines in gear they flatline. This is the drive trim i am refering to. i typically fly by the seat of my pants however it is nice to have a base point. i was thinking possible ground from transom to engine??? Not sure. Have not been able to get to the boat in storage.

Thanks,
John
PS this is a TRS drive application.
