Default How to remove the steering cable?

Hi, I have a alpha one with a 13' teleflex steering cable and it is very hard to steer even when disconnected from the power steering system. so I am trying to replace it. This is the old style and the mechanic said that it is not longer sold. My question is two fold. First, how do I remove it? I took everything apart but i don't know how to remove it from the power system at the point where the large pivot bolt full of grease is. I removed the bolt (more like a nut) but don't know how to remove it because it just doesn't come off that pivoted bolt. The second questions is: Do you know where to get an old style cable even if it is used or if there is something I can do to my existing cable to loosen it up?

Thanks a lot for your help!

If indeed a teleflex, they stamp in the sleve about 1-2 ft from the steering end the exact model # (and the last 2 dig are their length). Then search around for that number or call them for replacement. I just changed one in a 94 easily. You need to say a year, or if power steering or not. But typically, unscrew the big nut (sounds like you have) -there are flats on the sleeve to the right for a wrench to do so, then where that same steel cable end has a hole in it on the far right, there is a pin drops through with a cotter pin thru the bottom. Remove cotter pin, pull main pin up & out. then steering cable will pull left out the power steering rack. Lube the new one a bit going back in.
