http://www.copycatcovers.com/index.html

ezstriper 10-28-2009 06:51 AM

never used them, but I did use a guy from PA a while back who sells on ebay, makes new bolsters, etc, made me a new set and I sent him my back seat skin, had him add 8" to the back so I could move the seat forward for blower clearance, did a great job and would use him again for sure, custom marine fabrication 724-469-1971...Rob

masi242 10-28-2009 05:14 PM

ez, did you buy the bolsters from him? if so pics an quality?

Thanks

ezstriper 10-29-2009 08:37 AM

I think for what he charges you can't beat them...you could spend lots more for very little more....would use him again for sure...Gavin was his name, Rob

I checked out their website and they sparked my intrest....i sent them an email and some pics of the boat and they quoted me a fairly decient price! Infact i may just have to jump on it and try them out. They are a failrly new company..been around for like 6 months i think he said. Have to go and rip the vinyl off the seats now :D

Rookie 10-29-2009 07:19 PM

Looked at the website and they have a lot of nice before and after pics. Its pretty much what my upholsterer did. Took off my old vinyl and used them as patterns, stretched it over my old frames and foam and stapled it. Instead you do the labor of stretching and stapling. I would have definitely tried them.

I sent these guys a photo of my cat interior and told them I wanted carbon fiber like the 26 redlines have and i wanted it to look just like the redline with the charcoal greay carbon fiber and the silver carbonfiber with the red and they told me $925 for everything and I just pay shipping one way and they said it would be around 2 weeks and I'd have it back. i may just have to try them out.

WaterJunkie 12-14-2009 09:17 PM

Thanks, Rob!
I've got a bunch of pictures I need to add to the site. If anyone needs anything give me a call. 724-797-1921
Thanks, Gavin

WaterJunkie 12-14-2009 09:18 PM

Oh yeah your foam's on the way too.

WaterJunkie 12-14-2009 09:21 PM

Justin,
Not saying to go with me but you'll regret it if you go with anything less than what you wanted for your seats. An interior that you love makes a HUGE difference in the way you feel about your boat.

I am really looking forward to the new seats especially with having the two individuals in the rear. Mine are the White with yellow and black.

I didn't realize you were on this site. Thanks for putting up with all the emails....

Take care,
John

PS Everyone, Gavin has been a pleasure to work with and his prices are good. I will post with pics when I recieve my seats.

WaterJunkie 12-17-2009 10:43 AM

No problem John. Be sure to send some pictures once they're installed.

justincasey57 12-17-2009 07:16 PM

I am getting excited to receiving & installing new seats. Will certainly post pics, Before and After. Between the new interior, engine mods, chopped deck and paint it is going to completely transform this boat.

We also do upholstery work. Some food for thought.....

Sometimes the important stuff is where you cant see it. IMO if upholstery price sounds to good at one place compared most legitimate others, there is probably a reason. Granted the more basic you have something the less it usually costs. You just need to watch what you are buying.

A lot of places reuse foam that is shot, or just heavily wrap it in Dacron. It allows it to look good at first but not long term. I can say that you usually get what you pay for. Also like most things there are different grades of materials available out there.. I have also seen some places "forget" to do the piping in the upholstery, mismatch colors & textures etc.. Like anything else there are good places & not so good places.

Hey Justin,It's funny you mention that. I was just thinking that they should be here by now or VERY soon anyway. Check went out 4 weeks ago. I purchased 4 seats from him. My two front ones were pretty much out dated and I wanted 2 of the same in the rear with a small bench dividing the them. I have a ton to do once installed.

I'll be sure and keep you posted.

Thanks,
John

Sounds good! I'd like to see the quality as well as what the turn around time is. Boating season is short in Northern Michigan as I'm sure you know!

offthefront 02-04-2010 05:34 AM

I got a price from them (copycat) for a panel off my sunpad and the wanted 195.00 and 2-3 week turn around. A reputable local shop gave me a price of 145.00 to make a new cover installed ........m

I am not sure if you remember but I paid you up front to make me a swim platform, you stole my money, would not take my calls and I had to call you from out of state numbers, and I had to get my money back from my credit card company with a chance of luck..................I paid you in April to make my platform, didnt get my money back until the end of August.

PS: Why is your website down? Out of business???

Check out this other forum post,...........Funny how this whole thing came up, I had no clue he was on here....

WaterJunkie 02-19-2010 05:51 PM

I'm a dirtbag???? Wow justin your about a p.o.s!!! You come on here and claim you were ripped off?? NOBODY tried to rip you off. You paid with paypal and when I took too long I told you to file a complaint with paypal and they will give your money back. If I couldn't get your platform back and shipped out to get paypal a tracking # before my time was up you would be refunded.... AND YOU WERE!! I got stuck with the platform, cost of materials and the loss a weeks pay, NOT YOU!! I'll be the first to admit I have times that can take much longer than expected but I do very nice work, and I am not a crook!! Rob - Ez Striper will tell you... I took longer than I should have with his job, and it can be nerve wracking working with someone out of state that you don't know but he apperantly was happy! For you to come on here and try to ruin my career with false statements makes you pretty low. I will be contacting an attorney monday morning to see about a slander lawsuit!!! Do you know the meaning of the word?

Steve_H 02-19-2010 07:38 PM

If its factual its not slander.

WaterJunkie 02-19-2010 07:38 PM

You think by trying to discretely edit what you said about me is going to fix anything. If you want to try to ruin someones career and then change your mind, you could start with an appolgy. I'm not that dumb to not save what you already said and now trying to cover up. I'll be the first to admit to anyone if they have any questions that we had a transaction that didn't work out... you didn't get your product and I lost $$$. The only reason I'm not defending myself on the other thread is because I'm not a paying member anymore, but may have to put out more money just to fix what your starting.

WaterJunkie 02-19-2010 07:49 PM

Steve H., You might want to have an idea about what your talking about before you open your mouth.

*** custommarinefabrications is a scam****

IS SLANDER. yes I dealt with justin, yes his platform took entirely to long, it was mainly my fault but there were other paries involved that made it take longer (which is why I encourage my customers to get their products powdercoated at a location near them). NOBODY tried to rip him off or even argue the fact that he should get a refund so to come on here and try to ruin me is wrong. I'm the one that lost a lot of $$ on the deal, not him. I have had plenty customers say he was slow but it was definately worth the wait.... if you like I will forward you the emails!!

Steve_H 02-19-2010 08:02 PM

Look I dont have a dog in this fight so I really dont care. But, the lawsuit threat is bs and you know it. And, I have been down this same road with an upholstery guy in my area so I feel for TheDG. $2000 is a lot of money for most of us and I dont blame TheDG one bit.

Why did you not return the mans phone calls????
Being a business man I would hope you know how important communication is especially when something is late. He paid for a platform so he could use it THAT summer, not the next. You got to borrow his money for how many months?

And just how are you out money? Move some brackets around and sell it to the next guy.

WaterJunkie 02-19-2010 08:38 PM

I know you don't have a dog in this fight. This shouldn't even be a fight. I'm just trying to stick up for myself because he is lieing and trying to ruin me in front of potential customers, which could be thousands out the window so the lawsuit very well could be real. I know $2k is a lot... even at the real price (I believe$1,250 shipped) it's a lot. I gave my motor to a shop last may, after buying a so called drop in ready motor that was junk and still don't have it back. So I know all too well how it feels to get ripped off. I'm looking at twice on 1 motor. I did take his calls, not all of them. For a while I didn't even have it so I would be telling him the same thing I told him the previous time "still at the powdercoaters". If you even had a clue how much the oval tubing costs you might understand how I'm out of money but I'm not trying to whine about that, it's my loss. Everything I make is custom. He wanted a platform that's bigger than usual and if no one wants that size I can't sell it for full price and simply moving welded brackets around without leaving a mark... come on. I'm not looking for a pissing war but he jumped in another thread starting on me and now this one, most of it b.s.. Tonight's my night with my son and I'm spending to much time defending myself but if I don't everyone says "he's to afraid to even come on here".

wjb21ndtown 02-19-2010 08:56 PM

FWIW...

1) It's not slander if it's true. I know you don't feel that he got "ripped off" but apparently he does. That is subjective. Judging by the little known facts (the length of time being a breach of contract) I'm sure he could justify his words.

2) You have to prove actual damages to win a slander suit in most jurisdictions. You're going to have to actually compare profits from previous years to prior years, or prove actual loss of transactions to go forward.

3) You're going to have to have him served with process. If he's out of state it is likely the case that this lawsuit isn't ever going to get adjudicated, and you're likely going to have to sue him in his home state, so good luck flying there for every adjournment and trial date.

4) Honestly, you're probably going to have a hard time finding a lawyer to take this case that is probably going to amount to less than $10k on a contingency basis. They're not going to want their 30%, they're going to want their hourly rate. That means you're going to be out $175-300 an hour for each hour an attorney works on this case. You'll likely lose more money than you would have made.

At this point I would say that you've made your point and successfully rebutted the fact that he thinks you ripped him off. He got his money back and you didn't object to that. You could have been better about it though and refunded him cash instead of making him fight Paypal or his Visa card, but in any event the most he is out is writing a free $1,250 loan for a couple of months. Even at a typical court determined interest rate of 10% it works out to be about $20 bux...

I think a simple "I said I was sorry, and I lost out myself" is in order, and both sides should drop this thing.

That said, if you currently have any open transactions (like the one to GRD) I would try to fulfill your obligations in an expedited and professional manner to rehabilitate your reputation and strengthen the amount of good transactions you've had on this board.

TheDG 02-19-2010 10:09 PM

Well said!

End of subject

thx

WaterJunkie 02-19-2010 11:09 PM

wjb21ndtown, Yes I'm not looking to drag anything into court or waste time and money on a lawer (even though we are in the same state). I just don't want to be bashed just because of a bad transaction. We both lost out. If Justin could just fix what he started on the other thread I will be happy. I do have open transactions with people in this thread and hopefully this hasn't ruined the possibilty of others. I would like to take care of current obligations and move on.

Griff 02-20-2010 01:43 AM

You should have told him you would refund his money instead of telling him to file a paypal claim. That would have been a lot more professional. You could have easily told him that you were still working on the platform and refunded his money until it was completed.

BTW, Libel is written. Slander is spoken.

Steve_H 02-20-2010 06:40 AM

Your powder coater must really have a thriving business if his lead time is 3 to 4 months.

Maybe TheDG will delete his post at this point. I doubt he really wants to damage your livelihood, especially in this economy.
