Rec. Port vs. Oval Port Heads and upgrades
#35
It matters what you have now because if you have 370s, you won't notice much by your planned changes. If you have 330s, you'll make them approx 370s.
If you have large ovals right now, get the oval Air Gap manifolds and do bigger valves in the heads. Throw in hotter cams and finish the heads off with good rockers and springs. As always, exhaust suited to the cam also has to be done.
Oval port heads make more torque and efficient HP for the range you're in. I don't know why so many people think rect ports are preferrable.
And I'm guessing you're pushing TRS drives? You're gonna need a lot of power to pick up 5-10mph with those anchors.

Picking the right combo is important & can make a big difference..

if the guy is running stock exhaust refer to post 25 and 37. my 87 had 3" with fouled internal flappers. I just gained about 700 rpm a side on my peanut port 330's with 496 takeoffs from Teague's made my own 4" angle thru the hull to keep the fish cops happy. Performer RPM for Qjet for economy match ported the intake ports and knocked the big stuff down in the exhaust ports.. Comp cams springs lifters pushrods Harland Sharpe roller rockers a mess of ARP hardware and Moroso valve covers. I'm sure I just murdered the spelling of some of those names! I now am looking for a set of props to load the engines down to around 4700rpm. I'm curious what kind of speed did that 85 320 get? I'm just at 60mph with too short of props and am holding throttles back to 5000rpm max
