ok i just freshend up both my big blocks new valves, valves spring, new cam lifters. just wondering about how many hours i will get out of my valves springs before i have to replace them again? reason for replacement noticed ware on the cam gear and could hear some chatter underneath the valve covers. and noticed that i had wiped a lobe off one of the cams mushroomed lifters, the machinest said that the boat should run alot better, and had also said i was pretty close to grenading my port engine. so just wondering about how long i will get out the fresh top end!

That really depends on a lot of factors. What is the cam lift and how hard it is driven are the 2 main factors.

if you went back with flat tappet cams, be real carefull on the oil you run....the lack of zinc in almost all oils kills these cams..like griff said the cam will determine how long springs will last...fairly mild non roller cams with good springs will last a long time..Rob
