Default smartcraft engine install

Hey guys,
I have an 89 formula 272 sr1. Im interested in repowering and would love to toss in some newer platforms.
My main question is can a smartcraft motor operate WITHOUT the harness and guage/s? From my understanding, all marine motors are stand-alone self-contained drop-in. <~ lol So that being said, you can fire them up on a stand by supplying fuel, power, and water.. but will a smartcraft engine run 100%?

Should be no problem. I have one of the early 496 engines (one of the first smartcraft engines) and the only use for the technology is the engine itself. Nothing is hooked up to the CAN output. The engine will contain all the necessary sensors for the PCM. IMO it is a nice system unless you want to do a lot of modifications to the engine.

The Smartcraft system is all part of the engine and its systems. Ie if you buy a complete take out or replacement engine with Smartcraft, all you need to supply is fuel and Voltage to it and it will run.

Smartcraft is more to do with the info avail to you outside of relying on a few mechanical guages, which is much much more info.

So I would drop your engine in, and add a Smartcraft display at the helm and you will be the coolest guy on your river/lake.
