350 magnum upgrades

sorry to beat a dead horse I have an 84 formula 242ls with the twin 350's 260 horse I have looked at tons of threads only to get a little confused I dont have the money to buy 2 built engines but my question is I have read that bolting on some vortec heads would help, is that just regular truck 350 heads or do they have to be marine. I know that I can physically put any 350 chevy cam in it but what kind of cam am I looking for will it say marine cam? Everything that has marine labeled on it doubles in price so what will work? I looked at intakes, do I need dual plane, single plane? the engines have 300 hrs on them so they arent ready for a full rebuild but what ever I buy I want it to be useable on a 383 or whatever I decide on
thanks for any info

Put some boost to them, maybe some prochargers!

If you install a bigger cam, you will need better exhaust to prevent reversion. So figure 5 grand for exhaust before you get started.

boat stands for "bust out another thousand"

I would love superchargers boat the boat is worth about 7500 and the superchargers cost 9000-13000 plus the additional upgrades I would have to do. as far as exhaust goes I cant beleive this doesnt have through hull on it if I put 4'' on it now would that work both now and later and with headers what features am I looking for there is several styles

Fill it up with gas and go for a ride. If you don't have the money for built motors there's nothing you have the money for that will really pump them up.

I dont have $15000 to plunk down on engines or superchargers I can if I know what parts to look for start buying parts and look for deals till I have what I need to do the project

steel dart heads 200ccrunner 72cc. open vic jr. intake 750cfm holley, 480, 480 hydraulic cam, and a good set of exhaust used probably 2000 for the exhaust and about the same for the rest if you find some good used take off's and do it yourself . get some cross over too.

You would need exhaust that has longer risers and dumps water close to the transom. Even with cam, exhaust, intake and carb upgrades, you'd be lucky to gain 5 mmph on the top end.
For a $7500 boat, I would say leave it alone and go boating. Save the money for your next boat. At most, I would get props lab finished and gain a couple mph.

What Hunster said. I've been down that road with several boats. Save your money until you can get a faster boat. After you've "busted out another thousand" you won't be happy with how small speed increase is versus how much you spent. Just drive it have a beer and a good time. :drink:
