would a code reader for a chevy eng work on a 2000 350 mpi.?

A code reader for a GM car will not work if that is what you are asking. Jeff Wurl

I have a 1996 Baja with 454 mag efi mpi. Can you read codes on this year and if so where is the plug for this at?

See above and the plug will be close to the ECM, usually taped to the harness.
