I don't think I would sand blast them. They are cast aluminum. Don't know how well they would take that.

Is it just the bottom plates and is it chips and nicks or is it bubbling/corroding????
If its just chips and nicks, then you could just feather the damaged spots out, prime and paint them. If its bubbling, you should probably strip them.
I'm not sure if Kplanes are painted or powdercoated from the factory. A chemical paint stripper should remove whatever is on them.
You can just prime and paint over either one as long as what is there still has a good bond.
I would have them painted as opposed to powdercoated.
