Sea Water Pump
New owner of a 292 SR1 with 7.4 Bravo's. I'm asking for advice on how often should you replace the sea water impeller's? How often should the plastic housings and/or wear plates be replaced? Are there any inspection suggestions for which to look to avoid future problems. Thanks in advance for any help.

At a minimum you should replace the impellers every 2 years, many do it every year. I always do the housing too since it is not that much more money and even minor wear to the housing end seems to reduce water flow. If your water pump also has the mechanical fuel pump mounted to it then you also need to drain the oil from the chamber under the fuel pump (there is a screw plug on the side) and refill to the level of the plug with Merc Gear oil.

Sea Water Pump
Thanks Ted! During the sea trial I noticed that one engine was running just a little higher on water temp. Not knowing if the cause was the gauge or water flow it is my intention to replace the housings, wear plates and impellers at the start of the season. Tom
