It can happen if the lifter bore index is off, or the cam lobe is tapered. Or, sometimes chit just happens

How does a tie bar lifter flip around when being installed

Happened to a buddy of mine. They didnt catch it and it did just what sonic30s did. Thats why they are usually stamped "up"

Pretty easy to flip if you don't pay attention the the ^up^

when you say, FLIP their being installed backwards ??

I didn't build these engines, bought boat with 80 ish hrs on them.
Have had other builders tell me about noise issues with Morels (quiet one min, rattling like crazy the next- I believe 1Moses1 threw his out for the same reason)
Fwiw I went with the GM lifters they use in the ZZ motors and they are working great.
