Morel Lifter Worth it?
I am looking at these for a MK IV BBC. are they really any good?
Also does anybody know if they are pin oiled or not for the mkIV Retrofit Hyd. Roller |
Yes the best you can buy. Worth every penny.
Get a hold of RMBUILDER he help design the lifter, he will not say that or advertise it. Best advise you can get. He spends so much time talking to you, I dont know how he makes any money:drink::drink: |
I'm definitely not a valvetrain (or even engine) guru, but I can say that Morel lifters are very high quality. I am in their factory about every other week. I sell industrial carbide cutting tools and provide application support to our customers as well. Morel uses our inserts to turn, bore, and drill the lifters as well as our solid carbide end mills to rough and finish a lot of the slot details. Great guys to deal with and every time I go in there, they're always busting tail to get a hot order out for a race the upcoming weekend. Lots of high profile customers and big focus on quality, too.

I run them in my blown mark iv engines and no problems what so ever. One thing to mention is when I first set them up in my engines I preloaded them at 5/8 turn like on my old flat tappet lifters and had a lot of valve train noise. I had to preload them to 1 full turn to get them to be quiet. Not a problem, just something for you to consider when installing them.

Ed Morel is local to us here in cleveland. Lives 15 minutes from me.
Super nice and knowledgable guy. He came down to the machine shop when we set up my block for the .903 lifters. The notion that Bob M had a hand in his R&D is probably bull. He comes of to the drags once in awhile. I'll ask him about that one, but I'm betting it's BS. |

I replaced those with Morels and have not had an issue and also have them in my new boat build and used the .750 roller hydraulic version. |
It can happen if the lifter bore index is off, or the cam lobe is tapered. Or, sometimes chit just happens

Pretty easy to flip if you don't pay attention the the ^up^
|
when you say, FLIP their being installed backwards ??
|
I didn't build these engines, bought boat with 80 ish hrs on them.
Have had other builders tell me about noise issues with Morels (quiet one min, rattling like crazy the next- I believe 1Moses1 threw his out for the same reason) Fwiw I went with the GM lifters they use in the ZZ motors and they are working great. |

Arent the johnsons .700 wheel

There were machining differences in the two parts, however they have recently revised the manufacture consolidated them into the one 5374 part #. That being said there are significant material, and dimensional contrasts separating the street performance/Race/Hi-RPM lifters. We do not recommend the street/performance lifters in any marine application largely due to the use of a .700” roller wheel vs. .750” for the Race/Hi-RPM versions. The new .903” Hi RPM versions will support a .810” wheel.
The race version are also .300” tall and a direct drop in on any MK IV, Gen V/VI,Dart or Merlin block. The pricing listed in your post would seem a bit high. Regards, Bob |

Odd that the axle and wheel ended up on top
|
The axle made it up into the galley , thats a feat in itself ........surprised the cam didn't break.
