I have noticed on the Merc # 6 drives that some of them have what looks like ventilation tubes mounted to the cavitation plate. I know its dumb, but what is the purpose of these?? Some sort of ventilation??

Helps the props cavitate when getting on plane, otherwise they have trouble pulling enough RPM to get there.
