Check the shifter safety switch? My shift levers will inadvertently get bumped away from the neutral position and not let the starter engage.

I'm sure they have to design these electical systems for the guy that cranks his engine 5 minutes non stop or until the battery is dead. Most of us don't fall into that catagory and as such can probably do without it as well.

I pulled up to the docks once, family wanted to go out for the day and couldn't get the boat started. Same thing no click nothing. I told them to bump the shift levers, started right up. Sometimes the neutral position switches get out of alignment.

I have a similar issue with my Sunsation. After installing the 99' HP500's a few weeks ago we started the engines up to set the timing on the hose....the Stbd. engine seemed to have a 1 - 2 second delay when turning the key switch to the start position. Didn't think much of it then went to the lake and it did not want to start....solenoid was buzzing and then eventually it would start. I hooked up on of those jumper switches with the push button and jumped from the Red Purple wire to the large yellow red wire and the starter seemed to operate fine. So I installed a new spare relay I had bought for a trim pump....the steel base was different because the stock one has rubber vibration mounts built into it....so I switched the steel bases. Hooked up the new slave solenoid and now it just clicks. I checked power coming in from the small yellow red (From the key switch I believe) and I have 11.85 volts coming to it while my other lead is on a ground of the small yellow black wire. So I jumped across the red purple and large yellow red that goes to the starter and the starter works fine. My question is does the slave solenoid get it's ground only from the small yellow black wire or does it have to be grounded via the bolts that hold it in place? Also do you think when I switched base plates something got messed up and or do I maybe have a bad (new) solenoid. Sorry for the book....LOL

i dont think it gets ground from the bolts, it might but most likely its getting its ground from the starter. You might have messed things up when you changed out the base plate. I would just get a new one and hook it up just how the other ones looks.
