what would cause my gaffrig tach to run a little higher then normal, or bounce around?

Check for play in the distributor shaft. This will many times show up as tach bouncing and then break up over 3000 or so. Also any oil under the cap = bad.

One of mine does the same thing at 4800+ rpms. I have checked everything and I can't figure out whats causing it.

Before pulling your dist keep it simple and look at the back of gauge. The grey signal wire is either loose or corroded. That wire is the rpm signal. The purple is the power.
