I bought the boat a couple of years ago and lost a lobe on # 4 exhaust last week. Pulled it down and the the bottom end looks good, will throw a set of bearings in it and oil pump, flush everything the best I can. Tyler Crocket did the heads about 2 years ago and put the motor together back in 2006. The cam that was in it was a Edelbrock Z010, 234/244 duration @.050 and 488/508 lift. I have Gill exhaust , Weiand Stealth intake, 750 Holley, Square Port heads I believe around 9.1 compression. Would like to run something like 221/ 232 duration @.050 and 542/565 lift with LC 114. Looking for some help, I know someone here as already done this and can steer me in the right direction.

Check isky cams I've been runing them 200hrs in my 525scs and I'm very happy . Helped me get 600 HP out of them.

Are you looking at flat tappet or roller cams?????

Some good flat tappets that would work well are the Crane 134241 or Crane 132561(420/525SC cam)

Off the shelf roller cam would be a Crane 168731

That roller cam is very popular for what you have. That number is for a gen 6 though. Same cam for a Mark 4 would be 139011. Teague has them for about $45 less than Jegs or Summit.

i'm running a howards marine cam p/n 120031-12 on my gen 4 454. 30 over, stock manifolds, 781 oval heads, 9.5:1cr. its got a super smooth power delivery, which i was aiming for b/c i'm running an alpha drive. its got a little lope at idle, but very good dock/idle manners. also still has good pull above 4k. i don't really rev past 4800 or so, so i'm not worried about the 5-6k power range.

cam specs are duration 290/300 (215/225 @ .050), lift 502/525, 112deg lobe sep. flat tappet hydro lifters. seems a little mild'er cam than yours, sorta....less duration, more lift. just my .02, its all preference on your part.

Thanks, trying to get info on the heads that Taylor Crockett did last year. I think the valve springs would handle something with 540/564 lift, not sure at this point.

That is very close a stock Merc 454/502mag cam. It has the lope at idle because of the 112 lob sep.

right, i had a stock 330hp 454, so i was trying to aim for something more towards the 365hp mag. like i said, im tip-toeing around the alpha, so i'm keeping it mild. sounds like the o.p. is looking for something a little more radical....more power to him, literally...ha

Unless you like to run racing gas, you might want to be careful about increasing your LSA and reducing your duration if you are already running 9.5:1 static CR. What you are effectively doing if you go that direction is increasing your dynamic CR, which could lead to detonation problems with today's crummy gas. You might want to verify your actual CR before you decide on a cam. Were any of the combustion chambers CC'd to arrive at a true static CR? A part # for the head gasket would also be helpful to determine the thickness. No way to really know deck clearance without pulling a head, unless Tyler had this info recorded.
