Default Willl this engine work for me?

Found this ad on a local craigslist..... My 330hp bravo 1 engine is shot and I need an inexpensive replacement. My boat is a formula 223 that I only have about 3k into so I just dont want to spend 5k on a relacement engine!

I dont know motors all that well, I have replaced heads and upgraded the cam on my old jet boat but thats about the extent of my engine work experiance.

Will this motor work to replace my mercrusier 330hp 454? What questions should I ask the seller?
THANKS!

Here is the ad:

Yes, it will work. Seems kinda cheap tho ???

Also...look your drive coupler over real good while you have it out. Maybe replace it if you have the extra cabbage. Would suck if you had to pull the motor again to replace it after putting the new power in and enjoying it.

Check the condition of your bilge pump too. They are waaaaay easier to change while the motor is out, they are fairly cheap, and its a good mental feeling knowing you have a new one in there.

Might want to check out the specs on the cam he used. Sometimes them jets will have cams with the power band in the higher RPM range. However at that price it's probably a hydraulic flat tappet and and would be pretty cheap to change it if needed.

As stated, check the cam - if you have stock 330 exhaust, many cams jet boats use will cause reversion with your exhaust.

So it looks like I may get this engine, The guy says he rebuilt it 3 years ago for a jet boat project but solt the hull. The parts all sound like top end stuff but I still have a few questions....

1. Its a Gen VI engine and my old one is a Gen IV. I know that I will need to go to an electric fuel pump due to the lack of mech. fuel pump on the Gen VI block but what else will I have issues with? Will all the other stuff just bolt up?

2. What will I need to hook it up to my current Bravo drive?

3. He is looking for the cam card and is going to send me the specs but is there a specific lift or duration that I need or a range I should avoid?

Any other things I may need or that I should look at prior to buying please let me know
Thanks for all the help and advice!

You could use the seawater pump with the provision for a mechanical pump if you wanted to stay mechanical.

Engine bellhousing is the same so that should be no problem. If it has a circulating water pump on the block you may have to use your old pump so the belts line up, not sure.
