I think if you have a TSC around they sell it pretty cheap in the 5 gallon buckets. You would need a pump for those.

Ok i think after talking to my boat mechanic i am going to run the castrol gtx 20w50. Do i need to run any additives with this or anything? I am really torn between this and the rotella t 15w40. I want to stick with one of these because i have them both on hand.

i would go with rotella...castrol is sort of middle-of-the-road kind of oil...we used to run it in our motorcycles, but had longer-lasting engines with valvoline,or other brands...if you insist on using castrol, just add the lucas oil stabilizer

X2
On both
Although I dont think you can go wrong with Merc fluids, I also used Mobil 1 in engines for years prior to Amsoil with good results.

There are more threads covering this subject than any other. While there are certainly many options, I think you will find the consensus is that Amsoil is considered the best. Having said that, Amsoil has many options to choose from. I personally run the Dominator 10w30 in my 700hp BBC and the 75w90 severe gear in my Bravo 1. I think for your application the Amsoil marine gear lube is best because it can handle up to 10% dilution with water and still be effective. You may also want to consider this for the motor oil as a more cost effective solution.

It will provide you with good protection at a more competitive price.

This is what I run, 20w50 http://www.valvoline.com/products/co...ic-motor-oil/8

One of the highest zinc levels you can find, and higher than any "on road" oil. Zinc is great wear protection. Hard to find, but ask an auto parts store and they can usally have it the next day.

I think the guy I bought the boat from ran castrol 40w in it. I thought maybe I was better off sticking with the same brand of oil or do u think switching to rotella now is ok and better?

all engine oils are compatable with each other. An engine doesn;t have "oil memory" as some may claim. You can mix a full syn and conventional oil in the same engine at the same time, no issues.

Run what you want, the most important thing is the right viscosity for the conditions you will see.

I still have yet to hear of an engine letting loose because of an oil type/brand failure. Low oil pressure, low oil level yes.....but have you ever heard a builder say "you ran castrol syn, had you ran vavloline syn this wouldn't have happened"? If you have he is full of chit!

Syn oils show less wear over time in harsh conditions, a long time!

Sorry but i have to disagree with this. When i had my Scorpion with Alphas i had more drive issues when i tried to use a non marine gear oil. Stick with Merc HP, the green stuff. I think it is now only sold as Quicksilver HP. The only other one i would consider is Amsoils marine. I dont think standard gear lube can handle dispersing moisture as well as marine stuff. Just my .02
