Here's my best attempt at Photoshop...I do agree with you about the one under the seat.

Here's what I was originally thinking:
- replace the 6.5" in front of the bolster w/a 7.7 component
- replace the 6.5" behind the bolster in the lower panel w/a 7.7 coax and move it forward closer to the back of the bolster (black circle in pic)
- replace the 6.5" under the bolster w/a 7.7 coax
- add a 7.7 coax in the top panel (black circle in pic)

Based on what you are saying I'm thinking you're going to recommend putting the 7.7 component in front of the bolster and then two 7.7 coax's 2" apart in the top panel behind the bolster...no?

One problem that I always had with the old placement was that I could barely hear the stereo when outside the boat, say at a sandbar or something. I'm sure it was because one of the speakers was under the seat and the other was low on the side...

A buddy had just 2 sets of Polk Momos in his boat. All 4 were mounted up high, (2 front, 2 rear) and a 12" FA sub.
That was the best sounding system I've ever heard! We were at LC poker Run with it a few yrs ago and he had the stereo jamming in front of SD marina at gas dock. With a live band on the backside, couldn't believe how many that came out front to rock on the dock with us instead of the band.

All in the setup...... and having it dialed in. Just 4 speakers, 1 sub, 2 amps

Yep something like this behind the seat. Up high will work the best.

Yep moving the speakers up will bring more sound out. My old boss had a 33 PowerPlay with speakers under the seat, and you could not hear them, well you could when you passed out on the floor.

Basically my system, one set of componets infront of the bolsters and one set behind. I just have 3 12" subs in the bench.

My system is tri-amped. One amp for the tweets, one for the mids, one for the subs. With an electronic crossover. I have more control over the system, no loss of power dues to passive crossovers, and the amps only have to amplify a small freq band so more power to those freq's.

I have been on both Hot javas and Nightlifes boat. Both sound great and Im a bit of an audiophile. I think after reading this your going to be happy with your final decision.

Also, I am seroiusly impressed w the class D alpine amps

I've decided to go with 7.7 component up front and two pairs of 7.7's in the top panel behind the bolsters...still undecided whether they'll be coax or component but leaning towards components. Power them off a MHD 60/4 and then 2 M10W5's in boxes under the rear seat powered by a 750/1. This should be a pretty good setup, don't you think? :)

I think you are right, it'll sound great!
If you do go the coaxials, go for the M series, not the MX. Bigger tweeters. I really like mine.
