Port engine squeal
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQxK0...ature=youtu.be
The port engine runs fine but is annoying the hell out of me....any ideas?? This was a preexisting condition from last year but I forgot about till I fired the engines up after the valve spring job. Ran it with the drive removed to eliminate the gimbal bearing, coupler, and drive gear housing from the equation, also removed the serpentine belt to eliminate the alternator, water pump, idler pulley, etc. Your comments and ideas are appreciated.
Have a Great Day,
Paul

sure it isn't the serpentine belt? Spray some wd-40 on the belt and see if the squeal stops. If it does you can deal with it or replace it. The belt treatments don't last long. If it is something rubbing, dat don't sound good

Sounds like a rub combined with a tapping noise. What about the belt tensioner? After checking belt with belt treatment, pull belt and spin the tensioner?
SORRY!
Second thought, timing chain and Cam retention plate/cam face rubbing?

I believe he says he ran it without the belt and it still squeals. That makes it internal.

You could put a timing light on it and see it the squeak follows crank (every revolution) or cam (every other revolution, in sync with timing light).
That should narrow down the possibilities.

I presented the problem to an engineer at work that is a little crazy but he comes up with some pretty good solutions sometimes. He thinks it may be your piston skirts rubbing. He suggested putting some ZDDP additive in the oil. to see if it makes it quieter.

Do not know if your valve covers need the clearanced rocker. But it sounds like mine did when I put my new rockers on and just didn't clear enough material on the corner. I loosened the valve cover bolts and I could see it move as the rocker went up and down.

maybe spinning a cam or crank bearing. vacume leak, starter not disengaging.raw water pump , can you tell which area its coming from? front back on top ? is it carb or fuel injected . is it a constant squeal or rythmic. ok so i should watch the vid first. head or exhuast gasket loose spark plug or bad sparkplug gasket , exhuast leak, it sounds like its external , like pressure bleeding by a seal , doesnt sound like a mechanical rub . maybe a valve sticking open or leaking by but i wouldnt expect it to be that loud. personally i would start with the plugs and while your contorted down there check for any signs of leakage on the head and manifold gaskets...
well im done glad to be of noo help what so ever
