Coil ground

Hi.. Just replaced the coil in the 454, and checked for 12 v between the + and -, and had nothing. I have 12 v from the + to the manifold tho.. Normal? No cont between the - post and manifold with the key on, but it's there with the key off.. Is this right? Thanks!

this will tell you if its working ok...turn on the ignition on,,remove the coil wire from the dist, stick a screwdriver into the center of the coil wire and have a friend that knows nothing about cars or boats hold on to the metal part of the screwdriver, now touch the negitive side of the coil with a ground wire and if he gets knocked on his ass you know its working...:thankyouthankyou::lolhit:
