Just did this a few weeks ago... Take yours to Pep Boys (or wherever) and have them get GM pumps out of the box. Some have different return lines you can choose from, just leave the unused one plugged. Pay attention to mounting locations and you should be fine. But yes, take the regulator out of your pump where the pressure line connects and insert in the new pump. Local marina says that the new pumps come to them in an AC Delco box with a Merc sticker on it... and a $500 mark up. Yikes.

I replaced the new style pump on my 496 mag with a 89 corsica 3.3 liter pump just had to swap the fitting for the remote reservoir and of course the regulator. just for info on this style of pump, saved enough to fill my tanks & go boating!

Don't get an auto zone pump. Went through three that leaked and finally got a pump from an O'reilys I believe it was that worked great. I kept reusing the pressure relief valve from the original pump also. Iirc the pump was for an 80's Chevy truck.

I also just got an automotive pump and have a question about where the regulator is. Just to clarify it is the big nut where the high pressure side screws into the center of the nut? Thanks
