Default Fuel pump test

Had my 454 cut out and carb was dry of fuel... Removed the full screw and fuel pissed out ! Very comon thing from what I'm reading - 2 questions, can I remove my line going to the carb and turn the engin over and see if fuel is being pumped out kinda deal ?( should there be lots of fuel pumping out Of the fuel pump doing this or just a squirt or ??? Nxt how much of a hastle is it to rebuild these and where and who sells rebuild kits if avail ?? Much appreciated for any imput - already had to rebuild the other engin last month and now this ?!? The wife is ready to put me out in the garage permenantly .. Help !!

a mech pump will give a squirt the diameter of the line and a cou[ple of inches long cranking on the starter. be careful. one of my more unpleasant experiences was looking at my hand on fire...

Pull your leads to your coil off first...... Or barring that, at least the coil wire.

Ended up just installing a new Sierra fuel pump and works 100 % - refilled the bottom with oil and hope to be able to finish up the summer - will try and get the bearing replaced over the winter (hope that isn't too much of a crazy job)
