Default This worked great!! I wanted to share.

I'm cleaning-up a boat of mine to sell this spring. The rubber bump rail was a real eye sore! It had marks, a little discolored, and some deep gouges in it. It didn't do the boat ANY justice, but I didnt even want to see what a new bump rail would cost! After soaking in bleach, using Magic Eraser, cleaners and laquaer thinner, still didn't look good. All helped, but then I decided to try sanding! This might not be news to some of you, but I've got it looking like new!!! I REALLY wish I had a before and after pic to show off!! I Even got the deep gouges out and can't hardy see where they were! It sanded as easy as bondo and very forgiving. I used paper as aggressive as 40 grit on bad spots and finished off w/ 800. (I had to skip from 400 to 800 because I didnt have any 600 grit paper.

I tried that on mine and could see nothing but scratch marks( looking at from an angle ) looking directly at it I couldn't tell!

Used 1000 grit.. Maybe I didn't do it right....

I'm not gonna say it will work on all rails by all means. I'm sure some are made of different materials. I should also have said that if you do decide to try this, you will prob. have to sand the whole rail to look uniformed. I know that some have a glossy finish and I doubt one could sand and polish to gloss again. My rail looked bad enough that I felt like I had nothing to lose, and it really paid off!

another idea might be to try vinyl spray to recolor seats...plus, if it don't look so good, a little thinner and it is back off. oh yeah. plasti-dip. from lowes.
