What is the most cost effective AFR setup to buy ? Do I need a dual channel and run dual o2's or just one on the 1,3,5,7 side ?
I installed Innovate A/F. Much better than the Autometers I have in my Cobra.

arctic,
you may just saved me a future motor with this old 2013 post. I have stock 1998 502mpi's on my 32ft Sutphen. I raised timing to 35 degrees WOT from stock 29.5 with mefiburn, but run only premium gas. But i also put on Eddie Marine log type exhaust manifolds. Gained 6-7 mph between the two. But just recently lost a motor. Had rod bearings destroyed. Could be from detonation from a lean mixture with the timing and manifolds - similar to what you said in this post. I hadn't thought much about these things making it leaner, until now, but your comment makes sense - more air - leaner mixture.

I don't have 02 sensors, but either i will get them and weld in bungs which i don't feel like doing, or easier - just richin it up a certain percentage, say 6% or 8% at mid and upper rpms, and take plug readings.

Anyway, thanks for the info in this old post.

Kurt,

I would highly recommend getting at least one O2 sensor installed. Without it you are tuning (driving) blind. Depending on the exhaust you can install a sandwich plate between the manifold and riser and install the sensor there. I run mine full time.

Trash,
Yeah, the plates would be easier. Think I'll do that. I have the Eddie Marine alum log type manifolds. Surprisingly they have pretty big openings compared to stock and did add 2-3 mph. Got the EM right after i bought the boat.

I have started dynoing , cleaning / flowing injectors and doing on water tuning as part of my business in past few years, The best way to go IS with O2 readings on exhaust, have your injectors cleaned and serviced every few years FIRST though as a lean cylinder will change your tail pipe average but deceive you into improperly tuning it/ interpretation of numbers .
