rebuild external hydraulic steering rams?

Has anyone had any experience with rebuilding the steering rams for their boat? I have rebuilt tons of motorcycle front shocks and would think this would be the same thing minus a big spring. Those front shocks were pretty simple are the rams the same?

I did mine, they are Latham's and I was able to get all the parts at a local Hydraulic Shop without any issues.

Good Luck

Man that is good news to hear! The shop I took them to said 400.00 each and I almost couldn't contain how mad that quote mad me! It's the last thing I planned on doing to get this boat finally lake worthy . I couldn't imagine it would cost that much. Thanks everyone! Love this site!

Well I thought I was done with the questions but what kind of tools do I need so I don't mess up the finish on them?
