Default Gimbal Bearing Removal

I'm replacing my two gimbal bearings and im going to knock them out from the engine compartment. Is there anything that looks like a lock ring with nubs on it that needs to come off before I start beating on it? There is one of these rings that is right in front of the bearing when you look through the bellow it looks like it holds the bearing in. Can someone help please? I have added a picture of the ring that is in question.

Nope. The bearing just sits in the race which is pressed into the TA.

Search on here because just a couple days ago there was a gimbal bearing discussion that had some pictures in it I took when I did mine that would be helpful since this is your first time

There is a seal in front of the gimble bearing that you don't want to damage unless your going to replace it also, I used to use a slide hammer & a 3 jaw attachment to pull them out until I bought a puller. There is not anything holding the bearing in, it presses in like a wheel bearing. There is a washboard like spring around the outside of the bearing to help hold it. Randy

just beat the **** out of it!!!!! remember your supposed to be at my shop sat morning for us to install those so be ready that's why I said beat them out from the inside since the engines are out, remember when you put it back in theres a grease hole that needsto line up, unless you got the new non serviceable ones.

It should take about 30 seconds to knock each one of them out!

Ben i just did mine , befor you put the new bearing back in check the side of the bearing to see if grease hole is there this lines up with the grease nipple on the outside should have a red dot on the face . then find something the same size as the outer section to knock them back in , i had a broken corvettec4 prop shaft perfect fit for knocking them back in .

Put the new bearings in the freezer until you are ready to install them.
