Default cooling

I would like to get rid of the low water pickup on my b1. I constantly suck up sand and muck. My boat is supercharged so I need as much water as I can get. Does anyone have any experience with the thru hull water inlets or maybe I should be looking at strainers. Thanks!

Put through transom pickup on my old Baja. Worked great. Used Hardin adjustable pickup, shut off valve, sea strainer. Experimented with pickup length til water pressure was good at all speeds. Ended up about 1/16" below transom. Blocked off bravo water intake hose inside of boat, cut 2" out of intake hose outside (between drive and hull) to act as shower. Also added water pressure relief valve plumbed overboard. No more mud or sand. Strainer actually does very little, but can prevent large objects like pebbles or plastic bags. My engine temperature dropped 5-10 degrees (was running hot prior). Put a quick disconnect fitting for flushing inline. Parts were pricey. Got brass fittings and shutoff from ACE hardware. I could check the clear strainer cover for water flow, and was able to run in close to the beach without tearing up my impeller.
