All great info. Thanks guys. I really want to do arnesons on this cause I haven't seen a cafe with surface drives before. Might be doing big motors in it but we'll see. I will be happy if I can get the boat to 65

If I'm not mistaken ,the old 420 mercs had just regular cast iron crap for exhaust. Good exhaust and a cam swap will wake up a 420. Preferably hydraulic roller with true headers

They had Gil's and a Crane 132561 cam.

370's and 400 cyclones did have iron manifolds

MILD THUNDER 01-17-2014 08:19 PM

For about one year, the 420s had a cast iron HIGH PERFORMANCE manifold system. It was HUGE. and HEAVY. There were 6 bolts holding the riser elbow to the manifold. They flowed well, but known to be leakers at the wet joint. Merc ditched them and went to Gil.

I had early 400HP Cyclones. They had 3 inch rear exit log manifolds. Later they switched to the standard center rise iron 4 inch style stuff on the 370's.
