Silicone or 5200?
My drain plug in my Cigarette had a slow leak last summer. Not the actual brass plug but the chrome bezel that screws to the transom. I took the bezel off and noticed there was no silicone. I wiped clean and applied a nice thick bead of automotive clear silicone to the parts and reassembled. Last weekend I was screwing in my brass drain plug and noticed the chrome bezel moved a little. I took it apart again and noticed the silicone did not adhere to the slick paint of the transome. Should I rough the area with sandpaper and use silicone again or 5200? 5200 seams so permanent.

get a small tube of 4200 and some longer screws....make sure you wipe down both surfaces with some lacquer thinner..

Use 4200 as was said. Its basically the same as 5200 except has half the adhesive strength.
Walmart usually even has it. |
Scrape off any old sealer with a razor blade or knife. Wipe down with lacquer thinner so it's nice and clean, then the 4200.
