Silicone or 5200?
My drain plug in my Cigarette had a slow leak last summer. Not the actual brass plug but the chrome bezel that screws to the transom. I took the bezel off and noticed there was no silicone. I wiped clean and applied a nice thick bead of automotive clear silicone to the parts and reassembled. Last weekend I was screwing in my brass drain plug and noticed the chrome bezel moved a little. I took it apart again and noticed the silicone did not adhere to the slick paint of the transome. Should I rough the area with sandpaper and use silicone again or 5200? 5200 seams so permanent.

Scrape off any old sealer with a razor blade or knife. Wipe down with lacquer thinner so it's nice and clean, then the 4200.
