Default MIL Malfunction Indicator Lamp

Anybody ever hooked a 12v bulb up to the pin on the DLC connector, or a volt meter and read pulses for thrown codes?
On a mefi3 it's j2 pin 31 or E/F on the DLC connector.
Thx
Larry
