Engine Building books
I am very much a novice when it comes to engines, and the amount of knowledge some of you guys have never ceases to amaze me. I would really like to pick up some books on the subject of engines and engine building. I did a quick google search, and there are so many out there I have no idea where to start, so if you anyone can point me in the right direction with books/videos you have used I would greatly appreciate it.

Couple good books I have.

Thanks Joe. I had my eye on those two but wanted to check if anyone had any recommendations.

I got one of the e-books and downloaded to my IPad.... It was really nice to have it as a reference when building the engine at the airport..... I am a mopar guy and built many a big/small block in my day and the BBC does have its quirks! The book I got was by Mike Mavrigan?? I have a 454 and a 502 under my belt now so I am getting familiar with the BBC....... Just take your time and ask lots of questions if you get stumped..... TBF

I'd be interested in finding a book that is geared towards building high perf BBC marine engs.
I'm sure there are some significant differences between street/strip engs and high perf marine.engs. |
Dennis Moore"s Big Block Chevy Marine Performance, would be my first choice as an intro for marine engines. Explains alot of the basics of a marine engine.

any good engine building book will do. BUT, you use compression ratios, cam profiles, domes, chambers, rods, cranks, etc as specified HERE! any book that is published is old. you can build a great late 60s 454 with 80s updates by using dennis moore's book...

Thanks guys. I just found the book by Dennis Moore on amazon, they really must think highly of it at this price:

A merc service manual is a good reference also.

I wanted to purchase "Small-Block Chevy Marine Performance" by Dennis Moore... $545.77 for a new paperback? And about $300 for a used one? I know they are filled with great info but damn...
