Sounds like loose connection or a solenoid going slowly... Make sure all grounds are good and run one between engines also.. If there isn't one there make one #4 wire between them

Sounds like iffy grounding I had issues like that would have nothing one day then be fine all summer.... I did all new wiring and grounds never had issues again grounding is a huge deal in boats

replace the slave solonoid,they commonly go bad.

It could also be a bad spot on the starter motor commutator.
