How to keep exhaust tips clean?
After much hard work and time with light steel wool and polish here is what my tips look like.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e6...ps6eddb16f.jpg After one day at the lake they need it again. How do you keep they looking good? Should I give up and let them stay like this? http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e6...ps64bb4325.jpg |
What engine? It amazes me how much some fuel injected motors seem to soot up, never had that issue with carbs. A rag with vinegar or muriatic acid will take the hard water stains off with no effort.

I keep the inside of the pipes clean by running leaded race fuel with a wide duration cam wide open all the time. Another added safety benefit is the flames that can be seen coming out the pipes at night. This keeps the inside clean sounding really good and in my experience if you accomplish that it really doesn't matter what the outside looks like.

I'll try that. Will it prevent from future build up?

i use the works toilet bowl cleaner.spray some water on the tips, then put the works on the tip but don,t let it dry.about 15 seconds later rinse it off and they will look like new.

I was playing with the carbs vs. FI of course. No it won't prevent, just an easy way to clean. Muriatic is harsh so just enough to dampen the rag. As stated by mtkach, the works toilet bowl cleaner is good to as it is HCL acid, more commonly know as stomach acid ;-)
