Your not building an outrageous motor or reving it to the moon. you want to build a nice peppy motor that will live a long happy and healthy life with as little upkeep as possible, You want to be boating, not pulling crap apart keeping up with lash checking/adjustments etc. You want hyd roller coupled with a sane cam.

They weren't 2 piece valves. That one is now though.
I've got some gil exhaust on the way. I went by the machine shop today. He's got the rotating assemblies being balanced now. He's suggesting solid lifters. Any opinions on this?
Also, what size carb should we run on a 489ci with .600 lift cam?
Thanks again guys for your input.

It's been over two months and we're hoping to get the motors back between now and friday. I'm looking forward to it. He went with a howards cams hydraulic roller cam. I think he was thinking out loud when he mentioned the solid roller setup. Anyway, I'll keep y'all posted.

Got the engines going a few days ago. We damaged the starboard transmission. Gotta have it rebuilt now. Back out with the starboard engine.
