Stupid corperate greed walmart effect all that crap. I could see myself slapping a 174 on a old 8.2 in the name of making 500 hp happen for the paltry sum of 1200 dollars or so the value of that supercharger represents.
at least i could out holeshot the goober 23 year old in his 130k surf boat coming out of the no wake zone.
But me being me , about the same amount of money potentially gets you a 2.3 whipple,if you know what your doing can get you into bravo grenading eyeball watering real close to procharging kind of power.
Maybe even more , if you retrofit the new intercooler technology.and have a buddy that can weld aluminum

Otherwise , i would suggest a cool can on the secondary fuel line, 93 octane from the local chevron, and lots of ventallation in engine bay and so on so on ,;see what she will do .dont focus too much on absolute boost numbers as much as getting a good punchy 500 horses or so out of it on the cheap

I'm currently in the same delima, i plan to swap to 10-71's in the next year or two, but will need to source a blower hatch for my TG.

I run 502's with 174's and superchillers, Nickerson tuned carbs, all HP 500 style internal components, Frgd cranks, 7/16 rods, frgd pistons, crane roller cams and valve train, manley marine stainless valves. make 600/625 ftlbs of torque @ 5000 and 600HP approx. Low boost 5lbs and pump gas 91 octane. Chillers take 1-1.5 psi so realistic boost is 3.5-4 psi. Run fine, they sure scream though.

Honestly, I just already own them and don't have extra cash for this summer for anything different as there were some other things the boat needed.

My engines are already a tick better than 570hp each. Merlin heads that have had extensive work done, .646/.646 custom ground roller cams, dry exhaust, and so on.

I was just thinking if I got 3.5/4 psi out of them and made another 60-70hp then what the hell right!?

I just didn't want to do the work if they'd only make .5/1 lb or something stupid. That's why I was asking people's experience with 502 or more cu/in

What are the rest of the cam specs? The blower might be less than efficient with and NA cam

I'm curious as well as I'm running a 502 with 9.5:1 Pistons and don't want to rebuild or cut a hatch so a small huffer seems like it may be a viable idea.

I dont have the info in front of me, but i dont think the 250 blower, is any taller than a 174/177. I would do a 250 blower in a heartbeat over the 174/177s, if the concern was hatch clearance.

Weiand 250 and 177 are the same height, the 250 is just longer if you are running a holley 174 I do not know for sure, I have some weiand 177's and I am installing them this winter on some made up hp 500's in my Cig, in years past I have sold many of the weiand 177's and have installed them on 454 mags and 502 mags they work well for the buck is there better Yes but that's not the topic If you have them run them you will see a gain.

Hey Paul, You sold me a 174 a in 2014. If you are using the other blower that you had then on your setup now make sure you get it checked out. The one I purchased that was "rebuilt" was a mess (my fault for not knowing what to look for). All fixed now but make sure you go through it. Call if want more info. eight five six 371 four 3 0 3
