What will work best for a raw water pickup for a small, shallow v with a pad that won't impact speed or handling too much? looking for specific recommendations or what you've done or have that might work well. I can either buy something or have no problem making out of stainless if need be.
I've searched old threads and haven't found what I'm looking for. I'm running an alpha one drive (and about to go back to an alpha one ss... the boat is only 17 feet long) behind a 425 - 450ishHP 383 with afr195 heads, imco powerflows,... and am making a few cooling system changes: going from half closed cooling to full closed cooling, adding a combined oil and ps cooler, moving the heat exchanger, switching to a jabso crank mounted water pump, and cleaning up hoses and fittings. It's a bit cobbled together and currently has a big block heat exchanger and thermostat housing in it which work quite well. I plan to leave the impeller in the drive and reroute the pump outlet to a drive shower.
I was thinking that one or two small transom mounted pickups might work and would be much more adjustable than one through the hull... I'm also a little leery of putting putting anything through the hull on the pad where it would still be in the water when running flat out - but I have no personal l experience with anything but drive water pickups. When i had the ss drive on it before, it easily ran mid to high 80's... Thanks in advance for any thoughts / experience!
