Getting the #@$%& K--plane indicator cable out
 

Dumb question but I'll ask it anyway. I'm replacing a bad K-plane indicator cable and I've removed the nut, clip and rubber plug seal from where it passes through the transom and K-plane. But, the cable is still stuck in there good. I've pulled on it with both hands from the inside but no luck. Is there anything else that holds the cable in place or could there be some silicone or something in the seal housing that is holding it in there. Any thoughts or idea would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any advice you can offer.......john

Probably 5200. pull hard!
spary a little CRC brake clean in there. It softens the 5200. Don't buy or use the non-chlorinated it's junk and screws up paint.

Like class6 said it could be 5200 I have also seen salt corrosion squeez down on the cable and hold it in place it's been awhile but I have used a slide hammer and vice grips to get one out before.

I forgot to mention that the last few that I have replaced I used Xtreme cables and they seem to work a lot better then standard cables. The boat did have a lot of hard turns in the routing and the old ones were always temperamental since the boat was new

I'd go along with class6 also but if no success see if you can clamp on with a pair of vice grips and twist up close to the transom. Otherwise I'd cut it off on the outside of transom and use a flat punch close to the size of the cable and give it a few taps. I actually lifted my 32 right off the trailer with chain fall trying to get tab off that was mounted with 5200.

I had to change one last summer and just could not get it to come through the transom no matter what I tried. Ended up cutting it with a cable cutter.

Well I got it. Made a bridal between the port and starboard cleat to serve as an anchor and then a block and tackle to add some steady pressure. Took about 30 minutes and finally broke free but it came out in pieces lol.
What is a good sealer to put in there that won't stick like this one did?

A good marine silicone is all that should be needed. 3M 4200 is even overkill for this application IMO.
