I know that the cam is different for marine applications but isn't everything else just like a GM crate 502? If that was the case why cant I just get a list of GM part numbers and go to the GM dealer and order the parts. I just want a part list on GM part number for these engines. thanks
The vast majority of parts you need are not GM parts. The valve train is all Crane.
There are lots of threads with lots of parts listed from exactly what you want to do.
Like I said, its all a matter opinion on what is best.
Post a list of all of the things you want part #'s for.

Hello everyone!! Thank for all the input, I have another question, I know I am about to start a firestorm, But where can I get a list of OEM part number that are GM for the efi 500. Here is what I am looking for I want GM parts not Merc.
Distributer cap
Wire Set
Ign Rotor
Ign Module
Spark plugs Not NGK
oil filter
fuel filter
pcv
thermostat
pullies
I know there will be a lot of opinions But I am tired of seeing people get their head knocked off when trying to just do a tune up on their boats
again thank for keeping it g rated and all your help!

None of those things are GM parts. They are all Merc parts with some of them cross referencing to other aftermarket marine parts

x2...if you are looking for OEM stuff look on the bam website. They have all of the mercruiser part numbers that can be ordered at any authorized merc dealer.

my build from from last year:
1. Johnson lifters
2. Trend push rods

4. Isky 8005 springs
5. Pro felt gaskets

We didn’t do bottom ends so can’t help you there...
Yeah that is a super smart move spend thousands on rebuilds and buy 20 dollar qt oil for break in and never test the injectors inwhich FYI are more than half the reasons why the hp 500 efi needs to be rebuilt in the first place. That makes perfect sense to me. So if it was a carb engine and one is rebuilding the complete engine - would you go into the carb clean it and rebuild it with a new kit / gaskets. ??. If not that is a person who really needs to be educated about engine failures and how to help avoid them period.

Yeah another great idea for new rebuilds - reuse 20 year old fuel injectors and never have them tested nor cleaned for a new rebuild sounds like a great practice to be doing. Prob reuse all the fuel in gas tank that has sat around at least year for the rebuilt engine(s) as well nor never do fuel samples

bup if you want to talk fuel injectors start your own thread like you have. to have people come on here looking for build advise only to turn into injector commentary isn’t beneficial. if he wanted to talk injectors he would have asked. otherwise it looks like your pushing your own agenda...which is probably not the case.
