Default Neutral button sticks

I have a 87 Baja 240 sport. I have a single throttle control with the neutral button that you push in to get out of gear. My neutral button is sticking a little when pushing in. Is this the beginning of a problem, or can WD40 or something else to lubricate it help solve this. Thanks. Dan

Have you tried to just pull it apart and clean it?
