I've used Shark Hide over polished aluminum on my trailer, and engine compartment.
It tends to put a cloudy haze over it and not shine as much. Was hoping something better would come available.. |
[QUOTE=Brembofreak;4660571]I think about the diamond plates and salt before put in the hull! As i use boat in summer also in saltwater and so i have them powdercoated 3 times! First e poxie ground, silver and then clear powder at last! This will hold for years i hope as they not easy to take out again! Regards.Michael very nice and tidy work! |
Do a google search also. Bunch of videos with products and remedies. Just an FYI. |
Anodizing the parts is the Best long term solution. Not a big variety of choices for color but by far most durable! Same electro plating found on a sailboat mast. Bright dipping is more colorful however not a thick. I also support Sharkhide products do work and are easy to apply.

Shark hide is popular with pontoon boats, I would think it would work good for you as well

Flitz just came out with a spray on ceramic coat. I bought a bottle at boat show to try on my exhaust and stuff. Might be worth checking into

I`ve had good luck with Ceramic coatings... I find it works better on metal and upholstery than paint actually.
Did my exhaust tips , they were MUCH easier to clean (had to reapply midseason) and the upholstery in the boat was just an easy wipe down instead of cleaning for 15 minutes with Mr. clean pads to get the white clean. I bet the professional products are even better (I couldn`t get anyone to sell them to me) . It is very easy to put on. https://www.amazon.com/CarPro-Cquart...26DQN29D98FGMH Edit: Shark hide is a pain to put on, streaks and i`m not too impressed with it .. used it on my tabs and lowers and ceramic coatings blow it out of the water , pun intended Keith |
know this thread is old, but for future searches... I've had really good luck using por-15 glisten clear.... I'm sure that there are others that would go on thick and you could use just slightly (ie 2-5% extra) catalyst with. I've used this on a number of things. a good example are the polished imcopowerflows on my little river / sound boat (brackish to salt). polished to high gloss, cleaned meticulously, acid treated and several heavy coats of glisten clear... They've been in service for 10 years now... and it's not uncommon for water to get splashed into boat, engine compartment, etc... They look pretty close to when I put them in there and have had all sorts of things spilled on them over time... note that I suspect that clear will yellow slightly in the sun over a period of years - but not much... (I wouldn't put it over white paint on a deck...)
