JaniH - responses you get to oil cooler routing and bypass's will be for those using the Merc type oil cooler/filter routing, not what you are doing ie: oil cooler ports off block. So be careful.

I ran oil filters w/ no bypass,,I want all the oil to go thru the filter.and the guys that know my maintenance program,know I never had a problem.as for oil cooler,get one rated for more than your hp and make sure to run an oil thermostat.

I used metric feeler cauge and converted the results to inches. Top=0.45mm, Second=0.40mm

Ok. Have done lots digging about this subject and all the old threads are for merc type cooler routing. Some say using cooler ports of the block needs bypass valve or blockkage in port #4

Comp cams 7101 timing set needs clearancing, the chain is rubbing the block next to cylinder number 1. Is there bolt on adjustable timing set for Gen 6, 502?

Did not feel or hear friction while degreeing the camshaft. how thick is the block where you see the marked line in the picture? Really hate start grinding the block. I guess all double chain kits will rub.

Got the block back home from the machine shop, bored 030 over, torque plate honed, told them to shave 020" from the decks, but they forgot to do that. bought 509cid rotating assembly with mahle powerpack 13cc pistons, eagle 6.385 h-beam with l19bolts, eagle 4.0" 4340 forged crank. My compression should bump up to 9.5 wit 13cc pistons. Did some bearing clearance measurements, Main bearings clevite P-series (should i go with H-series?), rod bearings speed pro 8-7200ch. Main and rod journals are std size. Mains seems to be too tight and rods a bit too loose? can i leave the rods to 0.00314" clearace and get the main journals of the crank polished to get 1-4 mains to 0.003" clearance?. My oil pump is melling select 10778 hi-volume, it came with std and hi-pressure spring, wich spring i should use? help me please!

Main clearances, via micrometer and bore dial.

1=0.00236"
2=0.00255"
3=0.00236"
4=0.00236"
5=0.00354"

Measured one rod, 0.00314".

Replaced clevite p-series main bearings with clevite hx bearings.
1=0.0031"
2=0.0031"
3=0.003"
4=0.0031"
5=0.0039"-0.0043"

cleaned rods, torqued to specs, all rods between 0.0029-0.003".
