I have no interactions or comments on Cstraub, good nor bad. I have been on multiple forums that he has been removed from over the years. Whenever the name is mentioned there is always good entertainment to follow. I believe he is also banned from this forum. Do a search in the tech section.
I don't believe you will get a bad cam selection from him, you're building a 454 that isn't extreme.

why in gods name you looking for a spec'd cam from that snake oil salesman when 731,741 was all you needed.

Isnt it nice to see something different? 509cid with peanut port heads and straub cam. And no i am not a troll. One guy here made 461cid with merlin oval port heads, crane 731 cam, 9.5 compression. it made 460hp @ 5500rp, 494lb @4200rpm, without aceccories, CMI e-top headers, that did not impress me. Torque numbers of that combo was way off from my goals, goin to run mine in the same dyno. I have said this before but my boat is 26ft long, 24 deg V-hull, easily 6000lbs with all the stuff and passengers, original setup is twin sbc from the factory, so i am trying to make low end torque without losing too much from top. in my boating area i cannot cruise @3500 like the most of you, not even 3000rpm, 2000-2500rpm would be perfect cruising speed for me. Seems that this is the type of engine everybody hates in this forum. Hoping to get over 500hp with flat torque curve.

What will your cruise speed be at 2000-2500rpm?

merlin heads suck, enough said, can't believe it even made that much power.

when torque is measured on a dyno, the engine is typically at wide open throttle. So your 2500-3000 rpm part throttle cruise is completely different from 2500-3000 rpm wot pull on the dyno.

youd be better off selling the short block and buying a clean 330. And bore notching a 509 with those heads is a waste of time. This combo won’t make power past 4200 rpm
