Bilge Paint

I have the engine out of my 99 Baja and thought it would be nice to paint the Bilge/Engine room. My first idea was to go with AwlGrip, but by the time I purchase the primer, paint, activators and reducers it is going to be over $500. Does anyone have any recommendations for a product that works? The bilge is white.

Thanks!

Pete

I did awlgrip brushable in mine and I think my total was $300-$350. You might shop around. The finish is sweet by the way. If you apply it with a roller you must brush it flat or it makes air bubbles.

Rustolium white enamel , inexpensive and holds up, did my 33 Outlaw years ago

Yup. Engines hide most of the paintwork in the bilge anyway. And definately white. When doing headstand next to engine looking for that tool or part, you need all the light you can get.

I used rustoleum professional grade with valspar hardener. Very happy with the results

Guys, Thanks for the replies. Did you apply the rustoleum with a brush, roller or spray? Did you Sand, Scuff, prime etc? Any advice on application methods would be greatly appreciated

Interlux Bilgekote is nice stuff too. Just did my Sunny 288 while motor was out. Apply it with a brush and/or roller.

Clean really well. Degrease. Sand/scuff. Clean again. Roll/brush paint on. Prep is 95% of paint work. Prepped right you’ll love it. Don’t prep right it’ll be a mess.

A little trick with Rustoleum, if you thin it a little with Acetone, it will flatten out real well and look great. I have been using Rustoleum for a lot of projects lately, I've sprayed it and brushed it and the finishes are amazing when you cut it.
