I've never converted from a drive source to a transom style pickup but most of my boats have had transom pickups. If you go with a transom mounted pickup you will need to add a pressure relief valve between the pick up and the pump to bleed off some of the water when running at speed.
Hardin also makes an adjustable pickup. Four what its worth my boat doesn't fly but does run about 75mph on the top end. |

Do you have a water pressure gauge?
my boat is NOW closed coolant system.. dont know if that makes any difference... but just posting that.. motors use to run 140-160 no thermostats |

I converted my boat over to transom adjustable pick ups and love them , The only problem I encountered was breaking the welds off the pick ups so I welded the pick ups after I checked the pressure and then they were good. Then when I added two stage sea water pumps and intercoolers I did not have enough pressure at speed so I fish mouthed the bottom of the boat right in front of the pick ups and I have 15-17lbs of pressure at a little over 100mph engines run nice and cool.

Running only 28* of timing will create more heat as well.

You should be good to go without the regulator.
