Not sure why Patrick (phughes69) hasn't replied so I'll answer for him. He is running waste gates to control the boost pressure. You have 2 choices, waste gates or drilling a hole in exhaust housing to bleed some of the exhaust out. Without either your boost pressure will be excessive. I tried it and giving the throttles a half throttle blip jumped the pressure to 15psi so in fear of doing damage I never gave it more throttle until I installed the waste gates. The original Mercruiser/Banks 475 package using RayJay turbos controlled pressure with a 3/4" diameter hole in the exhaust housing which yielded about 4 or 5psi.

Thanks for the update For the Rajay turbos that came with the Mercruiser/Banks 475 package, did they use the 1.0 A/R or 1.3 A/R turbine housings? cheers Brett |
Brett,
I can't remember for sure (so long ago) but I believe they were 1.0. I believe the turbine A/R was marked inside the inlet. Patrick would have to look and confirm. Andy |

looks clean set up are you running any waste gates on hot side? I had some 12mm stainless adaptor place laser cut for the imco powerplus manifolds and have ordered 90 degree sch10 S/S elbows, I'll have a crack at fabricating the riser from exhaust manifolds to turbo, will use V-band clamp so can move turbo around to get in correct position. This will push the turbos approx. 8" back from there current on centre location, Forgot had some aero race/imco /? double skinned water cooled pipes put away few years ago, so they would come off turbo, and get me close to inside of transom. At present from where turbo is mounted I have 1200mm (47") length to transom and pipes are 36" long at least got the cooling issue covered pic uploaded shortly I ran 60 mm wastegates because my turbos were big and wanted to go to 50# of boost. I had adjustable boost with a key switch that allowed 12, 24 and 28 lbs of boost. |
This is a project of a friend of mine
23' Caravelle with Vw/Audi twin turbo V6 with Arneson drive Had it wet a couple of times, struggling with the computer and ABS/traction control delete issues Should be fun when the bugs are worked out https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...8547b3fc54.jpg |

Phughes69--I'm doing a Gentry twin turbo/twin engine boat. I bought the set but there was NO instructions or diagrams. Where are you getting your water for the intercoolers? Some have said they have a forced water pickup and they only get water while underway, others have tied them to their raw water pump. What's your setup and are you happy with it?

what size turbos, and brand are you running on the 572"? I had a look on another post and looks like the wastegates are vented to water cooler exhaust before it exists through transom, is this correct or are they vented to atmosphere through the hatch vent? The key setup on dial a boost is nice setup Phughes69 are your waste gates vented to atmosphere under hatch? |
