After spending all day hunched over a sand blaster I used a Harbor freight powder coating gun and a free oven to clean up all the rusty brackets. Time well spent in my book.

Still waiting for parts to arrive for the motor. I briefly flirted with the idea of building a 540 but more mature minds prevailed and ill use my stock crank.. I've got new rods,, inconel exhaust valves, SS intakes , water pumps , fuel system parts on the way

hope that rust was caused by fresh water,if not that rust will come back,seen it alot,,even after steel shotting the block.

I'll top the oil off and see if that helps ....🙂

I dont know , the plugs were out of the motor so your guess is good as mine .
At this point its headed to the machinist this week and ill move forward unless its un-salvagable. I understand that rust never sleeps, at least it will be covered with oil ( I hope the inside of the motor is covered with oil )

using the process of electrolysis to clean the block and heads , I'll see what it looks like after a day or two.

everything cleaned off after soaking for 36 hours , after pressure washing the water coming out of the block was running clear. Valves and rods showed up, one step closer
