YOU are my favorit profesor SB...So you think the litle chain gear that goes on the crank was mounted wrong and because of that the cam is too advance...yes?

If it has multiple keyways, than very possible.
Many gears, include factory OEM, only have one.
Many of us still use a degree wheel to make sure the cam is in where we want it. Many don't.

Yes 2.5mm. ex valve should be fine. Rotate cranksahft to 11* before top dead center on overlap stroke. Then remove valve spring push the valve down see how much Clearence you have
